Britannia Winkin' Cow Phygital AR Cricket Game

The Bottle That Became a Bat

Phygital AR Cricket Game

Hand holding phone with saving goal app interface. Financial planning concept.

Project Overview

The Brief
Britannia Winkin' Cow was launching a new product and wanted to ride the excitement of the Cricket World Cup to drive interactive engagement. The brief was to build a fun, immersive experience that didn't just feature the Winkin' Cow bottle, but made it central to the play and something that would genuinely resonate with cricket fans, not just borrow their attention.

The Insight
Cricket fans don't just watch the game, they mimic it , the backyard swing, the imaginary bat. That instinct became the opportunity - what if the product in someone's hand was the bat?

The Approach
We used computer vision and gesture recognition to detect a Winkin' Cow bottle through the phone camera and track its motion in real time, translating a physical swing into an in-game cricket shot. Players could either swing the actual bottle as their bat or opt for on-screen controls — a phygital experience designed to blend real-world gestures with digital gameplay, so the brand integration never felt bolted on.

The Solution
Players scanned a QR code on-pack or logged into the game directly, chose their play mode, and stepped up to bat — literally, if they swung the bottle. Each match ran 5 overs or until 5 wickets fell, with bonus runs for hitting the "Cow's Corner." Top scorers could submit their runs for a chance to win a MetaShot Smart Bat, turning gameplay into a genuine prize-driven contest.
